Phishing Scams

Phishing, and we're not talking about hooking stripers, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, or the musical group, is a serious problem on the web today. Phishing is all about someone fraudulently attempting to convince you to willingly give them information about your identity. The phishers want your SSN, your credit card numbers, your bank account information; anything they can use to steal your identity.

Phishing can appear to come from your bank, internet service provider and other organizations you have a relationship with. Remember, your bank or your internet service provider will NEVER contact you to verify your account information by asking you for your account number, password, etc. Only phishers will do this.

SouthTrust Bank, Comcast, Earthlink, and other large business have been hit by phishing attacks. And, the emails and pop-ups look very legitimate and convincing. See the image above.
